How Mindfulness Relieves Chronic Low Back Pain

Earlier this year, the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) published this article titled “Not Just Mind Over Matter,” and reported adults with chronic lower back pain benefited from a wide variety of treatments. One of the most effective treatment options involved Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), which decreased long-term pain and increased short-term function among several patients.

Low back pain is extremely common in all age groups and can be disabling. Numerous treatment options are being offered by different disciplines and providers. Many of them are unproven and not evidence-based.

Some of the treatment options such as steroid injections and ablative (destructive) procedures can be very harmful to the body in the long run. Steroids can suppress your own adrenal glands, cause increased body weight/fat and has potential to cause diabetes and osteoporosis.

Therefore we recommend safer treatments. These can be effective in the long run and can significantly improve quality-of-life. We will be publishing a series of blogs and evidence-based articles about such treatments.
